Help us Identify The Green Turtles

Over the last seven years or so, we've regularly seen a small female Green Turtle at Ras Mohamed. Some dive guides call her Millie. We are seeing it now increase in size (if it's the same one).

We'd like to find a bit more about her, and getting photos of turtles around Sharm over the years will help.

Firstly, we'd like to identify if there is more than one Green Turtle of this size here in the Sharm area. We've seen bigger ones, which we think could be Millies parents, and we have some photo's of Millie when she was younger. More photo's will help tremendously.

When born, green sea turtles are only 5 cm (2 in) long. But they grow up to 1.5 meters (5 ft) in length and can weigh over 300 kg (700 lbs), making them the largest of the hard shell sea turtles.
The dorsal shell of the green turtle, or carapace, is wide, smooth, and brownish-olive in color.
The underside of the shell, or plastron, is yellow. Green sea turtles are so named for the greenish hue of their skin. They have heads that cannot retract into their bodies, a trait commonly associated with turtles so our research tells us but we thought that was tortoise's. Reaching speeds of up to 56 km/h (35 mph), their streamlined shell and paddle-like flippers aid in their ability to swim quickly and with grace.

O.K. here's what we'd like you to do.

Please send your photos of turtles taken in the Sharm area and let us know.
1. Date. (approximately will do if you can't remember exactly).
2. Dive site. (if unknown a rough area will do i.e Ras Mohamed, Tiran, Local)
3. Please e.mail your photos to
4. We would like your permission to use the photos on our blog to inform divers of our findings, Please state if we can use them or not.
